Dogs assist man in so many ways, and this years displays will show a variety of dogs that are highly trained and enjoy their work. The programme will include a variety of interesting displays illustrating the many aspects of dog’s wonderful working relationship with man. Whether they are fun agility dogs, gundogs or sporting dogs, watch them 'work' in complete harmony with their handlers. It is obvious how much they really enjoy everything they are doing.
With such a varied programme there is something for everyone.
Rookwood Dog Agility Display Team
The Rockwood Dog Display Team was first formed in 1985 and is based in Caerphilly S. Wales. They travel extensively all over Great Britain including the Channel Islands and Ireland. Martin Winfield and the team have made countless appearances on National TV and have appeared at many of the countries leading outdoor events. They were at Crufts again this year displaying their skills in the main ring and for television to millions of viewers. A high profile team with breathtaking stunts, beautifully performed and professionally displayed a show not to be missed. Sheepdog and Ducks Display
Local farmer and show supporter, Colin Gordon, of BBC TV’s One Man and His Dog, presents an entertaining & informative display with his trained sheepdogs rounding up Indian runner ducks through a challenging course of tunnels, slides and water pools. So much fun - not to be missed.
Gun Dog Display
Steve Davies will be putting his working dogs though their paces and explaining what is involved in the training of these tireless workers.
Falconry
The falconry display this year will be with Ben Long and his beautiful birds. Ben will be flying his magnificent birds in the display ring and explaining a little about what is involved in training these wonderful birds of prey. Ben will also have a stand at the show where you will be able to visit and get a really good look at the birds and chat with him to find out more about working with these wonderful birds. Ben is making his first visit to the show although he is very familiar with Gower, and has been working closely with Brian Williams just down the road from the showground at Perriswood Archery and Falconry Centre which is the only centre dedicated to the pursuit of Archery & Falconry of its kind in the UK.
Sidesaddle Demonstration
Nothing evokes such elegance as riding side-saddle and once the only fitting way for a lady to be seen on horseback. Side-saddle riding is enjoying increasing popularity around the world today, albeit in its more up-to-date form. Apart from its secure seat, its very uniqueness and sheer elegance of style appeals to the modern equestrienne. Penny Pembridge will demonstrate this attractive way of riding and will give us the opportunity to learn more about the history of the art and dress for side-saddle ladies.
Banwen Hounds
This very traditional country pursuit is represented as usual when some of the members and hounds of Banwen hunt will display in the main ring, after the Grand Parade. The Banwen Miners Hunt originally formed in 1962/3 and have been regular visitors to the Gower Show. Children and other members of the public will be given the opportunity to come into the ring to make friends with the hounds and meet the Hunt Staff.
