The show will offer classes for livestock, horses, show-jumping, poultry, honey, cookery, horticulture, crops, stick making and vintage engines. See the schedule section for details of the classes and downloadable entry forms.
Horses at The Gower Show are certainly a highlight. The 2008 show ran successfully with two Bryncadoc ponies taking Overall Champion and Reserve. The standard of competition was high throughout all the show sections.
This year’s show is once again offering RIHS qualifiers and Championship qualifiers for the BSPA plus NEW for this year BSHA RIHS qualifiers for the Maxi Cobs, Riding Cobs, Riding Horses and Hacks. (Entries may be restricted).
WPCS Medal classes will be on offer for our Welsh in hand exhibitors and a NEW section for the Palominos with qualifiers for their Championship show. The Ridden Show Pony / Show Hunter Pony classes will affiliate to the NPS and so will the Ridden Mountain & Moorland classes with the Silver Medal this year being awarded to the Best Mountain & Moorland in-hand exhibit.
Also NEW for this year will be the Veteran Horse Society area qualifiers and a Shire Horse section. The popular Hunter section will have a selection of classes with one in-hand youngstock class.
Due to the success last year with the Miscellaneous section these classes will once again start the day.
This show rings will be larger than last year and the Riding Horses and Hunters will benefit from having two rings combined.
The Children’s Fancy Dress (always much fun and colourful) will be held after the Supreme Championship and will parade their costumes in the main ring.
In addition to the showing there is Unaffiliated Show Jumping for both juniors and seniors, which will incorporate a qualifier for the Shires Welsh Rider Championship. The show jumping this year will take place in the main ring and will start at approx 4.30pm.
We do hope to welcome old and new competitors and please feel free to ring the horse secretaries with any queries.
A full programme of other displays and events will take place in the various show rings throughout the day including a Dog Agility display team, “Jive Pony” – a spectacular world class vaulting and gymnastic display on horseback, a falconry display and a gundog training display. The Banwen Miners Hounds will also put in an appearance, and there will be a parade of vintage engines and cars.
Horticulture
There is a full range of classes in the horticulture section so whether your interest is in the vegetable garden or the beauty of flowers there will be classes for you to enter. Classes are held for both children and adults and all items entered will be on display in the flower tent. We are always really happy to receive entries from new competitors so even if you have not tried before why not give it a go? Bring your friends along to come and see your work displayed. This marquee always smells so fresh and is full of beautiful colours and floral art. Have a look at the Horticultural Schedule for full details or contact Liz for further info on 371222.
Cookery and Handicrafts
Classes in the Cookery and Handicraft section always include photography, painting and needlework. Recipes for the cake entries are detailed in the schedule. Again there is a full range of children’s classes too and the children really do enjoy creating their works of art to show off in this section. Have a look at the schedule and see what classes you can enter as a family. Contact Daphne on 390754 for more information.
